"The Heart of the Village: A Glimpse into Rural Life"
"Village life is like a quiet symphony, where simplicity and harmony come together to create a beautiful, tranquil existence. In the gentle rhythms of daily life, you find a deep connection to nature and a sense of community that is often lost in the hustle of modern life."
You might feel like the villages in India have a long way to go before they have proper sanitation facilities or rather, a more liberal mindset. But the truth is, what you see in these rural villages is the past of India. A simple and primitive past that these villagers have still maintained. As soon as I arrived in the village, I felt as if I had stepped into a completely different world from the hustle and bustle of modern life. And I got the chance to explore the village life in depth.
CHIHERU, a quaint village in Punjab, India exemplifies the charm and simplicity of rural life in the region. Chiheru is a small settlement that offers a glimpse into traditional Punjabi village life, characterized by its agricultural practices, vibrant community, and cultural heritage.
We saw Chiheru railway station a railway station on Ambala–Attari line under Firozpur railway division of Northern Railway zone. This is situated beside National Highway 44 at Chiheru, Tehsil Phagwara in Kapurthala district in the Indian state of Punjab.
We saw a gate made in sweet memory of late S. Gurbachan Singh Dhaliwal of Vill. Madhopur.
Agriculture is the lifeblood of village Madhopur. The village is surrounded by fertile land that supports the cultivation of a variety of crops, including wheat, rice and sugarcane. The fields are often lush and green, reflecting the hardwork and dedication of the local farmers. Traditional farming methods are still widely practiced, although modern techniques and equipment are gradually making their way into the village. They usually grow their own vegetables and have a common well to collect water. There is not much traffic near villages so its very calm and peaceful.
The villagers were incredibly warm and friendly. Engaging in conversations with them and learning about their lives was a priceless experience. Their simplicity, hard work, and resilience were deeply inspiring. Even though everyone was busy with their tasks, they took the time to talk with me. Their humility and straightforwardness made me reflect on the possibility that true happiness might lie in such a simple life.
Their lifestyle is truly very different from what you or I have grown up in. Most of the houses have cows to get fresh milk. They also have domestic animals. The best thing about these villages is that they are very environment-friendly. A collective, family-like feeling is common among the villagers unlike in a city where every one prefers to mind their own business. They lead a very simple lifestyle and naturally, they feel content with it.
The people of Madhopur are known for their hospitality and friendliness, which makes the village a welcoming place for visitors. Traditional Punjabi hospitality, characterized by warm welcomes and generous serving of local food. We met an elderly woman who runs a DHABA with the help of her son.We were tired because of the humid weather and they gave us water & free cold drinks for refreshment this is a key aspect of village life.
We visited a well-maintained cow shed. The shed had a complete system for the cows’ food and water. I also met another elderly woman RIHANA APPA who took care of the cows and earned her living by washing the utensils used in the community kitchen. Her spirit of service and humility was deeply inspiring. She performed her work with full dedication, reflecting her deep character.
Like many rural areas, Madhopur faces challenges related to infrastructure and development. Access to modern amenities, such as healthcare and education, can be limited. However, there are ongoing efforts to improve these services and enhance the quality of life for the villagers. Community-driven initiatives and government programs aim to address these issues and promote sustainable development.
I will always be grateful for this wonderful experience, and the memories of this trip will remain etched in my heart.
Thank you! I hope you enjoyed reading :)
